Question.
What
made Rosa Parks… Rosa Parks?
This is what she said was the key.
“As a young person, I grew discouraged from reading books that proclaimed Black
inferiority. Discovering Black history in school is what changed my life.”
“Black history was a Godsend.”
In her speeches, she told audiences that learning about earlier freedom fighters like Harriet Tubman, Phillis Wheatley and Mary McLeod Bethune is what gave her the courage to stand by her
convictions.
“I read everything I could, first in school, and then later in books and magazines. Learning the history of this country and the struggle of Black people
within it was crucial,” she said.
Because she knew its importance, she fought for decades to get Black history included in the curriculums of Detroit schools.
So now you know.
Understanding the history of the freedom fighters who came before her is what gave Rosa the courage and strength to fight.
You can become powerful too… in your own unique way.
It’s why we do a monthly Black Folks Magic Culture Class.
We do it for you.
We do it to give you the same kind of fuel Rosa got.
The February class is Saturday, February 18 at 8:00 PM Eastern.
