Memories...
Hello Fam,
Wow! I really enjoyed the Black Folks Magic Culture Class that I attended last night.
It touched my heart and made me want to cry!
It brought back a lot of childhood memories. I thought about growing up in Chicago… raised by a mom who was a single parent.
I thought about being light-skinned… and people in my own family calling me white.
I thought about all the times I was bullied at school.
It brought back memories of people in my own family telling me my lips were big and looked like I had baking soda in them.
I felt bad about
myself.
So, I know what it's like to be attacked and beaten down.
The thing is… the ancestor we learned about last night was away from home.
I was at home!
What a bad feeling.
I did persevere and got out. But sometimes, to this very day, I still have to fight for my self-esteem.
The BFM tribe members are right. We must educate our own people.
I want to thank all of you for
sharing last night. It was powerful and much appreciated.
